 Five years ago in Panevezys a murder of Prosecutor Gintautas Sereika was committed. Sneaking shots of a murderer beside the house of the prosecutor struck down a youthful, energetic and principled officer, who fought against organized crime. That day one shot an officer, whose weapon has always been law and justice. Gintautas Sereika has been in Lithuanian
prosecution since 1991. He started a professional work of the law as a
temporary Prosecutor in Prosecutor’s Office of Panevezys City. From 1993
he held the position of Chief Investigator of the same Prosecutor’s
Office. On 1 February 1995 he was appointed Chief Prosecutor of Organized
Crime and Corruption Investigation Division at Regional Prosecutor’s
Office of Panevezys City and has worked there till his death.
On 25th of December, same as every year, family, relatives and former colleagues shall come to light the candle of remembrance at the burial place of Gintautas. Lithuanian prosecutors do and shall always respect memory of a brave colleague as a set example of honour and lawyer’s responsibility to the society.
The Prosecutor General of the Republic of Lithuania Mr. Antanas Klimavicius has nominated Gintautas Sereika (after his death) for special award of International Prosecutor’s Association. |
